University of Missouri Faurot Field

Columbia, MO

JBC Landscape Architects (JBC) was engaged by the University of Missouri – Columbia’s Campus Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction team to develop Design/Build Guidelines for the conversion of the existing stadium natural turf field to an artificial surface. The project also included the replacement of the artificial surface in the fieldhouse. JBC conducted a thorough evaluation of the existing field base construction to determine its suitability for a synthetic surface installation. Working in close collaboration with the University’s Athletic Department, JBC assessed program usage and identified the performance requirements most appropriate for athletes and coaching staff.

The firm's approach emphasized performance, longevity, and sustainability. By leveraging the existing field base where feasible, JBC helped the University maximize resource efficiency while meeting athletic performance standards. This work highlighted JBC’s ability to create high-performing athletic environments while allowing for long-term adaptability and maintenance flexibility.

Following a successful initial installation, the University once again selected JBC to lead the next phase of turf system upgrades. JBC prepared construction documents and oversaw the installation of a new artificial turf surface. After evaluating the field, the team confirmed that the sand-based rootzone remained suitable for reuse, preserving the University’s ability to return to natural grass in the future simply by removing the synthetic turf and installing sod.
