Swope Soccer Village and Championship Field
Kansas City, MO
JBC Landscape Architects (JBC) played a key role in the expansion of Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri, a major component of Sporting KC’s professional soccer training facility. The project began with the design and construction of a natural grass championship field featuring seating for 1,500 spectators. This 90,000-square-foot bluegrass surface, one of the few level soccer pitches in the nation, was completed on an accelerated four-month schedule and opened in time to host the Big 12 Women’s Soccer Championship that same fall.
The championship field quickly became a centerpiece for regional and national soccer, serving as the site for the Big 12 Women’s Soccer Championship for multiple years, as well as the former home venue for the FC Kansas City NWSL team and later the Swope Park Rangers of the USL. Soon after, the complex expanded further to include five full-size synthetic turf soccer fields and enhanced amenities such as restrooms, concessions, and storage facilities.
This fast-tracked, high-performance project showcased the value of integrated collaboration between design, engineering, and construction teams. The result was a premier soccer destination that set a new benchmark for quality and functionality in the region’s athletic facilities.
