Sporting KC Soccer Complex Feasibility Study
Kansas City, Missouri
JBC served as field consultant to sports architecture firm Populous, providing site selection and feasibility services for an 18-field, tournament-quality soccer complex associated with the Sporting KC Major League Soccer team’s Livestrong Sporting Park. Designed to host national tournaments and major regional events, the $30 million facility in Wyandotte County was envisioned as one of the largest in the Midwest, expected to attract more than two million athletes, families, and spectators annually to the Kansas City metropolitan area.
As part of the project, JBC evaluated potential sites to determine the best fit for the complex’s intensive operational needs, including stormwater management, field orientation, and infrastructure support. JBC's technical assessments helped establish the framework for a high-performance facility that would balance tournament-level expectations with long-term maintenance efficiency and user comfort.
The resulting Sporting KC Soccer Complex was planned as a world-class destination that extends beyond athletic use, featuring indoor practice facilities, professional training fields, a championship stadium, and youth fields, complemented by hotels, athlete housing, and mixed-use commercial amenities. JBC’s contributions during feasibility and planning stages helped ensure that the project would perform successfully from both an athletic and a community development standpoint.
