Longwood Reimagined - Kennett Square, PA

As part of the Longwood Reimagined project design team led by Reed Hilderbrand, JBC Landscape Architects provided soils design for both the interior conservatory and the surrounding landscapes. JBC developed custom soil profiles to support a range of planting environments including curated garden beds, a native meadow, and areas of high-performance turf. Special attention was given to the conservatory, where interior climate conditions required a fully tailored soil mix.

A key aspect of the project was the close collaboration between JBC, Reed Hilderbrand, and the horticulture department at Longwood Gardens. Known for their deep expertise and commitment to maintenance, the Longwood team played an integral role in shaping the overall scope of the soils design.

This project marked the first time JBC partnered directly with a horticulture department, resulting in a productive and rewarding design process. Opened to the public in late 2024, Longwood Reimagined reflects the strength of this collaboration and the integration of thoughtful design, horticultural expertise, and high-performance soil systems.
