Community Visioning - Tabor, IA

JBC Landscape Architects (JBC) partnered with the community of Tabor, Iowa, through the Community Visioning Program to create a conceptual plan and implementation strategy that highlighted the town’s natural, cultural, and visual resources. The process focused on strengthening community identity, improving safety, and expanding recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.

Key elements of the plan included safer walking and biking connections to schools, enhancements to Main Street with new sidewalks, bump-outs, and beautification, as well as entry signage to create a cohesive and welcoming identity. The vision also emphasized celebrating Tabor’s historic character while encouraging new businesses through signage and pedestrian improvements.

Community amenities such as a proposed splash pad, updated play equipment, and expanded park facilities were designed to bring added value to public spaces. JBC also developed strategies for improved drainage, organized circulation, and functional layouts to ensure that investments were both durable and sustainable. Together, these improvements provide a framework for Tabor to grow while honoring its heritage and enhancing everyday quality of life.
