Community Visioning - McGregor, IA

Through the Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning program, JBC provided professional planning and design assistance for transportation corridor enhancements in McGregor, Iowa. The JBC team collaborated with community stakeholders to assess needs across various sites, analyze circulation patterns, and coordinate program documentation with multiple agencies.

JBC developed design concepts to address McGregor’s priorities for improved park spaces and stronger pedestrian and cyclist connectivity, including:

  • Triangle Park - The concept design features materials that echo the historic context, expand gathering nodes, and add parking. Removable bollards allow celebrations to safely extend into streets, while ongoing street updates, ADA compliance, and drainage needs were carefully considered.

  • Peace Park - This reimagined space honors McGregor’s history with formal plantings, seating areas, a re-homed historic monument, new restroom facilities, and enhanced pedestrian and cyclist safety measures.

  • Trail and sidewalk improvements - Expanded connections link residents and visitors to McGregor’s parks, natural areas, scenic vistas, and nearby destinations such as Pike’s Peak State Park and the City of Marquette.

Together, these improvements create a cohesive and forward-thinking vision for McGregor that enhances daily life for residents, supports tourism, and preserves the community’s historic character.
