Community Visioning - Hampton, IA

JBC Landscape Architects guided Hampton through a comprehensive community visioning process aimed at strengthening transportation corridors, improving connectivity, and enhancing overall community identity. Working closely with a local steering committee and ISU research staff, the team conducted focus groups, including targeted outreach to the city’s Hispanic population, visual assessments, and a full inventory of circulation patterns, recreational resources, and community assets. These efforts informed a cohesive report with actionable strategies tailored to the needs and priorities of all residents.

The steering committee identified several high-priority areas: connecting the Rolling Prairie Trail to local and regional destinations, adding trail amenities such as benches, lighting, and bike maintenance stations, improving pedestrian circulation with a safe, accessible sidewalk network, enhancing downtown through streetscape upgrades and crosswalk improvements, and establishing wayfinding and identity signage to reflect Hampton’s character. Input from residents emphasized the importance of safe, walkable streets and accessible recreation opportunities for youth and adults alike.

The resulting concept plan outlines coordinated improvements across Hampton, including multi-phase trail connections, trailhead amenities, sidewalk expansions, downtown streetscape enhancements, and community signage. Presentation boards documented the recommendations, providing a clear, actionable vision for long-term transportation corridor improvements, recreational access, and community identity enhancements.
