Community Visioning - Conrad, IA

JBC Landscape Architects worked with Conrad through the Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning Program, guiding the community through a collaborative process to strengthen transportation corridors and enhance local amenities. With support from Trees Forever field staff and Iowa State University’s design team, residents and stakeholders participated in surveys, focus groups, and detailed assessments of transportation conditions and community resources.

Through this work, the steering committee outlined key priorities: improving sidewalk networks and walkability, enhancing trail connections, boosting pedestrian safety, and expanding recreation opportunities within Conrad’s parks. These goals shaped a set of transportation-focused design concepts addressing everything from safer routes along key corridors to upgraded trailheads, park improvements, and strategies for building a more active, connected community.

The resulting vision gives Conrad a clear direction for future enhancements—one that supports accessibility, encourages outdoor activity, and builds on the community’s existing natural and recreational assets.
