Georgetown University Multipurpose Athletic Fields
Washington, D.C.
JBC Landscape Architects collaborated with Hughes Group Architects and SportsPLAN Studios to deliver comprehensive design and construction phase services for a new multi-sport facility located in the central core of the Georgetown University campus. Designed to accommodate both competitive and intramural athletics, the facility features an advanced artificial “in-fill” turf system capable of supporting multiple field configurations. Temporary field markings allow for maximum flexibility, enabling the space to easily adapt to a range of programs and athletic events throughout the academic year.
Constructed as Phase I of a broader facility development, the project established the foundation for a complete athletic complex that will eventually include expanded spectator seating, concessions, and training facilities. The initial phase delivered the primary field and limited spectator areas, providing immediate functional and visual improvement to the campus core.
JBC provided leadership throughout design and construction, guiding the turf selection process, preparing detailed design documentation for system installation, and overseeing construction quality control. The firm’s expertise in athletic field engineering and soil system design ensured long-term performance, playability, and durability of the surface, while maintaining strict adherence to schedule and budget. The result is a flexible, high-performing athletic venue that enhances both the student experience and the overall campus environment.
