Freedom Fields National Military Museum

Lexington, Missouri

JBC Landscape Architects provided comprehensive landscape architectural services to assess the feasibility of a new campus for the National Military Education Center and Museum. The site analysis report prepared for the Board of Directors examined a range of critical factors, including topography, slope, existing vegetation, land use patterns, soil conditions, wildlife, and view sheds. The analysis also evaluated potential entry routes, including trail connections to the Lexington Civil War Battlefield and Visitor Center, and incorporated regional context, population projections, future land use plans, and existing utility information.

As part of the study, JBC coordinated Phase 1 and Phase 2 archaeological surveys as well as an environmental survey to identify potential development constraints and inform planning decisions. The resulting site analysis report served as a key resource alongside the architectural master plan prepared by SmithGroup of Washington, D.C., guiding the thoughtful design and development of the education center and museum campus while ensuring environmental sensitivity and historical context were fully considered.
