Alice Martinez Rodriguez Park

Waco, Texas

Situated in the heart of Waco, the Alice Martinez Rodriguez Park project transforms a historic athletic site into a premier multi-functional community asset. Serving as a key technical partner to lead landscape architecture firm Design Workshop, JBC Landscape Architects provided the foundational expertise required to revitalize the legendary track and field facility, which was formerly the training grounds for the world-renowned Baylor University track team.

Soil design throughout the park was tailored to support a diverse, native-based plant palette and large specimen trees to provide immediate relief from the Central Texas heat. To ensure the long-term vitality of this expansive landscape, JBC Landscape Architects designed a complex, large-scale irrigation system that prioritizes water conservation without compromising plant health. The design incorporates equipment that is familiar to the City of Waco Parks and Recreation Department and integrates cloud-based programming and real-time monitoring capabilities, giving the department precise control along with operational efficiency.

By blending elite athletic facility design with climate-resilient water and soil strategies, JBC Landscape Architects helped the design team create a sustainable park space that honors the park's history while supporting the future of the Waco community.
