Iowa Veterans Home Meditation Garden - Marshalltown, Iowa

Following the Landscape Master Plan produced in 2016, the Iowa Veterans Home hired JBC to provide bid documents and oversee construction of the first phase of the master plan improvements. The project included a fountain, pathway, benches, lighting, landscaping and a wooden fence surrounding a nearby greenhouse. Before the project began the space wasn’t accessible to residents. Previously, two trees and a large section of grass were blocked off by brick walls. The redesign preserves the existing trees and creates an inviting space for respite and relaxation.

The space is surrounded by large windows, providing residents visual access to the tranquil space year-round. In the center of the meditation garden stands a two-tier fountain made up of two 100 year old sugar kettles with color-changing LED lighting.
