The New York City Football Club (NYC-FC) of Major League Soccer is now training on a pitch designed by Jeffrey L. Bruce & Company, along with Rafael Vinoly Architects, at the Purchase Campus of the State University of New York (SUNY-Purchase). The high performance sand based natural turf training tablet will serve as the primary training pitch for the first team.
JBC performed all aspects of the sportsfield design including sub-grade grading, irrigation layout and design, sub-drainage layout and design, finish pitch grading and sports turf consulting on this 138,000 square foot pitch. Since this pitch is laid out as a tablet and not quite 2 full fields, the rotation of the pitch on the tablet is crucial to the design and construction of the pitch. Since the project was fast-tracked to provide a training location of their own, the sand based sod was thick cut and laid in early December 2014. JBC worked closely with the Owner and Contractor in the off season to ensure that the pitch was ready for use by the team before the start of the season in March 2015.
With the success of this pitch, JBC has been retained by the Architect and the Owner to continue work on a future permanent training facility, academy fields and possible the stadium pitch.
