The Lions retained JBC to assist in the design of a new, state-of-the-art practice facility in Allen Park. Designed to be environmentally sensitive, the 235,000 square feet of new field turf will implement numerous new technologies.

The athletic surfaces will be maintained using a best management practice fertility program developed by JBC for local site constraints. Subsurface drainage monitoring will minimize the impact of the facility upon adjacent wetlands. Automated field sensors will monitor temperature, volumetric water, and gas levels in the soil, thereby providing a detailed understanding of field agronomy.

The new fields will include nearly five acres of sand-based turf, providing the Lions with two full-sized football fields and a dedicated sled training area. The facility is scheduled to open in 2002.
