Construction
is currently underway at the site of the new 6,425-seat ballpark adjacent to
the Ben Franklin Bridge in Camden, New Jersey. The ballpark, scheduled to open
in Spring 2001, will be the home of the Riversharks as well as the University
of Rutgers at Camden baseball team and other special events.
JBC designed the field systems including turf selection, irrigation, subsurface
drainage, rootzone and game equipment. The limited capacity of the surrounding
urban infrastructure required the field to double as a storm water detention
basin during rainfall events. The field is designed to temporarily store a 5"
rain event below grade in the subdrainage system, thereby minimizing the impact
to local storm sewer systems. The project is also located within the 100-year
floodplain of the Delaware River, so the field is designed to accommodate a
high groundwater table.
