In
1998, JBC was commissioned to assist the New Rochelle School District in the
development of a $4.1 million public referendum to improve and restore all outdoor
athletic facilities throughout the District. The master plan included a detailed
needs assessment and schematic recommendations for six elementary schools, two
middle schools and one 400,000 square foot high school. Over 20 playing fields
were inventoried and evaluated. As a highly urbanized city, New Rochelle School
District has been precluded from adding new facilities for many years. Heavy
program use by the District is further complicated by open community use by
local Parks and Recreation, club sport leagues, adult leagues and unscheduled
community use.
To stem the deterioration of the facilities, JBC developed a creative, controlled-access
program along with new sportsturf technologies.
Construction is currently underway.
