JBC
was commissioned by the University of Kentucky to renovate the native soil playing
field at Commonwealth Stadium. A state-of-the-art 10" reinforced sand rootzone
and 4" gravel drainage profile was used to create a perched water table growing
medium for the new Bermudagrass turf. An air handling system was included in
the design to provide enhanced agronomic performance and heating for the rootzone.
The integration of synthetic turf for the player areas and a blue warning track
around the edge of the field enhanced the ease of maintenance and helped to
further beautify the appearance of the stadium.
Construction is scheduled to begin on the new field in the fall of 2000.
