Walton
Stadium, which was dedicated at the Big 12 Conference Track and Field Championships
in May 1997, will serve the track and soccer teams. Located on the west side
of the track, the 2,500-seat stadium will serve track/soccer on one side and
softball on the other.
Designed by JBC, the field was the first narrow profile sand plate system in
the nation. This innovative technology allowed for construction of field performances
equal to a standard USGA perched-water system at less than half the cost. This
affordable advance in field technology has the potential to revolutionize athletic
surfaces for minor collegiate venues.
