The main
objective behind the University of Iowa master plan was simple: to establish
an environmental ethic. The purpose of the study was to devise a strategy
for improving the urban forest of the campus. The study serves as a tool and
"living" document that stresses to provide more than a collection
of trees. The findings and recommendations of the study are intended to be
utilized in campus development and management for the purposes of preserving,
reinforcing, and restoring woodland and natural assets of the campus, encouraging
plant and animal diversity, providing recreational and scenic opportunities
for students and university staff, and enhancing educational opportunities.
