JBC prepared
a comprehensive study of Francis Quadrangle, the historic central campus green
space flanked by the institution's first buildings, for its restoration and
future use. The distinctive architecture and spatial organization of the Quadrangle
provides a powerful symbol for the heart of the University, and our master
plan for the "red" campus establishes future development patterns
that incorporate the University's traditions while accommodating its needs
and opportunities. The challenge lay in remaining sensitive to the original
spatial development of the Quadrangle (created in the early 1900s) while designing
to accommodate future needs.
