The central
campus improvements were the first phase of an extensive revitalization project
planned for the heart of Johnson County Community College. JBC had the opportunity
to provide a complete range of urban design services. The growth of the campus
and the need to accommodate new activities required that central campus outdoor
spaces be rehabilitated or completely redeveloped. Certain plazas and walks
around the campus, important to pedestrian movement in the area, were enhanced
with new pavers, special plantings, and furnishings. Campus circulation was
improved and screening established. Pedestrian amenities were introduced,
and special distinctive lighting was designed to help establish an area identity.
