In April 1996, JBC accepted an invitation to enter a design competition for preparing a Master Plan for the University's main campus in Baldwin City. Upon submittal of a formal document describing the firm's vision for the Campus, JBC conducted a formal presentation to a Selection Committee of its proposed approach and concept for the Master Plan. The firm's vision statement included explanations of the campus built form, landscape, landmarks, vistas and open spaces. Soon after, JBC was selected to proceed with finalizing the Master Plan and implementing documents for construction of the initial phases for improvements.
